Road Safety Trust publishes Impact Report

The Road Safety Trust has published an Impact Report as part of its obligation as a charity to ‘demonstrate the difference it has made’.

The Trust is an independent grant-giving charity supporting projects and research intended to make UK roads safer for all road users. It provides grants ranging from £10,000 to £200,000, depending on the funding round.

Sally Lines OBE, CEO of the Road Safety Trust, said: “Every charity needs to be able to demonstrate the difference it has made, which is quite challenging for many charities – especially grant-making trusts and foundations that are reliant on the projects they fund to make a difference individually first.

“Impact doesn’t happen straight away – the journey can be a long one before positive change becomes evident.”

To meet this challenge, the Trust has developed a Road Safety Trust Safe System Wheel framework’, which it hopes ‘makes sense to everyone’, not just those within the road safety sector.

The Impact Report presents the results of the Trust’s first five years of grant-giving and the completed projects it has funded.

Sally Lines concluded: “It can take several years following a project’s completion for its impact to become evident, but with our Road Safety Trust Safe System Wheel framework, and our grantees as partners, we are now able to capture and monitor the impact of projects we have funded.

“This enables us to articulate the difference we are making – through our funding – to improve road safety for everyone around the UK.”

The Road Safety Trust has also produced a video showcasing some of the road safety projects it has funded since it was formed five years ago.

The 30-minute ‘Spotlight on Grants video’ – co-presented by Louise Palomino and Tanya Qadir, the Trust’s Grants Director and Grants Officer respectively – has been produced in such a way that viewers can ‘dip in and out’ rather than having to watch it in one go.

Louise Palomino said: “The video is  a great way of learning about some of the projects that we are supporting, so we’re inviting road safety professionals to share it with colleagues who may be interested.”
