Road Safety GB seeks applications for vice chair role

news

Road Safety GB is seeking to appoint a new vice chair, with the successful applicant assuming the role in November 2023. This voluntary board-level appointment offers an opportunity for local authority road safety practitioners to play a key role in shaping Road Safety GB going forward as well as gaining experience of being a trustee.

The position of vice chair of Road Safety GB will become vacant later in the year when the current vice chair Sam Merison, takes over as chair from Philippa Young. The current constitution outlines that the vice chair role would be undertaken for a two-year period before then assuming the role of chair for a further two-years.

However, the board do not want the length of tenure to be a barrier to discouraging applications for the role and are open to discussing the duration.

Philippa Young, chair of Road Safety GB, said: “This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced local authority road safety practitioner to become involved at a national level, and to support their colleagues by serving Road Safety GB.

“The role is important and would give the successful candidate exposure to working at a national level and provide good experience in terms of future career development. A number of previous trustees have taken up national road safety positions and undertaking a voluntary role can often help with such a move.”
