April focus on Fatal 4
Police forces across the country have been supporting a four-week operation to highlight the ‘fatal four’ offences. The operation, which got underway on 1 April, is being co-ordinated by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC). The NPCC operation will focus on all vehicle types and road users, with forces conducting joint partnership and cross border operations.
The aim is to educate road users on the perils of the fatal four – not wearing a seatbelt, drink and drug driving, speeding and using a handheld mobile phone.
The Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership will be sharing information on social media to encourage seatbelt use, demonstrate the risks posed by the fatal four and the penalties drivers and passengers will face when they are caught.
Sgt Chris McSharry said: “We are asking drivers and passengers – to please make it a habit to check everyone is wearing a seatbelt before travelling because a seatbelt is one of the most effective things you can do to reduce risk.”
