DfT seeks ADIs for cycling study

The DfT is still looking for approved driving instructors (ADIs) to take part in a study designed to improve understanding and cooperation between people who drive and people who cycle.

The ‘Cycle Savvy Driving’ study is being delivered by the Bikeability Trust, with the support of a number of organisations including the AA, the DVSA, and the ADI NJC. The initiative aims to ensure the safety of cyclists is at the forefront of the driving curriculum by addressing the current ‘paucity’ of cycle awareness learning resources for ADIs and learner drivers.

The study requires 4,000 participants, who will be assigned to one of two groups. Both groups will be given access to free online training at different points in the study – while some will receive free practical training.

The two groups:

• Train now: Complete the registration survey and then choose from a practical training course or online learning. The training is free and will take place over the following three months.
• Train later: Complete the registration survey and then wait. The study will make contact within three months with another survey to complete. The online course can then be accessed.

The study team say the training is the perfect opportunity to shape the future of the driving instructor industry – while gaining valuable training to ‘ensure you stand out from competitors’. ADIs can sign up via the Cycle Savvy Driving website.
