UKROEd is proud to be supporting this year’s National Eisteddfod of Wales (5th – 12th August)
UKROEd is committed to helping this year’s National Eisteddfod visitors make safe choices as they travel to and from the Maes.
Around 160,000 people are expected to head for the village of Boduan, around four miles from Pwllhelli, during the course of the week, and UKROEd will be on hand to promote safer road use for everyone.
UKROEd is one of the UK’s leading road safety organisations and we manage, design and quality assure driver educational courses. These were delivered on behalf of the police as an alternative to prosecution to 1.8 million drivers and riders during 2022. Provision of courses and learning materials in the Welsh language is a priority for the organisation, who last year received the Cynnig Cymraeg (Welsh offer). This is a recognition by the Welsh Language Commissioner given to organisations who show a strong plan and commitment to the Welsh language.
UKROEd’s Welsh Language Champion Iestyn Davies explained how the organisation would be offering its support during the week of the Eisteddfod.
“As well as raising the road safety profile with North Wales Police, we will also be publishing a series of safety messages on social media. These cover some of the leading causes of death and injury on the roads of Wales, including speeding, driver distractions, the non-wearing of seat belts and drink driving,” he said.
“We are pleased to be supporting the National Eisteddfod, which is our premier Welsh language cultural event. We want every visitor to have a great day, and for no one to be hurt on their way to or from the event location.
“All driver retraining courses are available in Welsh, either in the classroom and online and we are delighted that more and more Welsh speakers are choosing to complete their course through the medium of Welsh. There was an increase of 60% in 2022 compared with previous years, and numbers this year continue to increase.”
